Mr Agejo Patrick Ageh, SG / Director in charge of
Communications of IHAF was nominated to represent the initiative at EDI
“Governance and Management of NPOs/NGOs, India, following the approval
of the nominee by the Indian Technical and Economic Affairs Ministry,
Government of India. To that which we say thank you for finding us
credible for the task.
During the six weeks stay, Patrick was
filled with practical knowledge through learning by practicing in a
participatory manner, which was very strategic and ideal for optimal
understanding and performance. The quality and know how of the resource
persons was one of the highest he was ever exposed to before.
Furthermore, the rich course contents which was very adaptive to all
strata of participants - beginners, intermediate and professionals -
facilitated the take home aspect of human endeavor: learning to serve
others.
According
to Mr Agejo, sharing with 27 participants from 18 countries from Latin
America, Europe, Asia and Africa, was a mixed bag of very rich cultural
diversity, which to him was the cream of the trip. They represent in
his mind the ‘United Nations of EDI’. We are convinced, many (if not
all) delegates / represented organizations / governments remain
grateful to the Government of India, through its Ministry of External
Affairs, and EDI for this epoch visit.
Patrick cannot thank
all enough. However, he wishes to sincerely thank Prof Santosh Kumar;
Director of the programme, for providing participants with other
academic tools for project management, monitoring and evaluation,
logical framework approach and worthy of mention was his readiness to
listen and share with participants as a mentor and friend or member of
our network. In addition, Dr S. Tripathy, for his regular care and open
door policy to receive participants even after working hours.
Very
enlightening and enjoyable trip Patrick took, he sees the study and
cultural tours to some NGOs and tourist attractions of India were like
a deliberate attempt to make participants come back to India. Ever
since Patrick returned, we have continue to maintan networking with
some NGOs in India including: The Blind People Association, Sevar
Mandi, SAATH, Jaipur Rugs Foundation, Gramin Vikas, Development Support
Centre amongst others. The 7th Wonders Great Taj Mahal remains the most
formidable structure Patrick ever saw. We appreciate, and for these,
Patrick and IHAF says thank you.
We also wish to show our
gratitude to the World Association of NGOs (WANGO) for the Code of
Ethics and Conduct for NGOs offered IHAF as well approving our
membership into WANGO.
IHAF hereby stand on her commitment to use
the skills which you have impacted on our delegate in our services to
ensure welfare for all in our communities.
Visit to the St. Theresa Orphanage, Obili - Yaounde, June 27, 2009

As
part of the commitment of IHAF to ensure good health for all including orphans,
we happily visited the St. Theresa orphanage at Obili - Yaounde, Centre Region
on Saturday June 27th 2009. The orphanage holds about 21 orphans or destitute
children age from few months to 15 years with a few attending primary
education. Amongst their worries are the needs for assistance of these children
to be enrolled in school, feeding and infrastructure. In line with these, IHAF
immediately made material assistance and ran a capacity building course on leadership and team
building in project management (two free course learning materials were
provided) intended for improved management. The orphans and management thanked
the Almighty for the wonderful initiative , gesture and spirit behind IHAF.
IHAF-PPPMD I
Proper Project Planning and
Management for Development (PPPMD 1)
Unity Hotel, Bamenda, NWR, Cameroon, Feb. 5-7, 2009
Workshop
Description:
The workshop on Proper Project Planning and Management for Development
is considered a precise and concise tool for success in projects and
sustainable development. For a project (be it social, business or
developmental) to be successful, it has to be properly developed, planned,
appraised, implemented, managed, monitored and evaluated. Unfortunately, our
projects are planned and managed without following the principles of project
planning and management. Thus, we fail in our projects even before we commence
them. Furthermore, we have inadequate knowledge on the objectives of the MDGs
in project planning.
Workshop
Objectives:
To build capacities of personnel in management and leadership positions
on project planning and management and the place of MDGs in our projects for
development.

IHAF benefited from
short training course on project planning and management.
During the second and third
in-Country Training Workshop on Project Planning and Management (PPM) that held
between March 31st to April 10th and September 1st - 12th, 2008 at
PAID-WA Buea Cameroon, organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat, London in
Collaboration with Pan African Institute for Development West Africa (PAID-WA),
Buea and the Commonwealth Department, Ministry of External Relations (MINREX),
Cameroon, two of our members, Wilfred A. Abia and Jato Denis Mbako respectively
represented IHAF during which they each learned much on Project cycle
(identification, planning, implementation and Finish or Monitoring and
Evaluation). They have continued to share knowledge acquired with other members
through series of In-house training workshops starring other PPM participants
duly invited as facilitators (Mr Mbankop Simon and Mrs Abia Eucharia. Worthy of
mentioned is that they eventually became IHAF members).
We look forward
(in 2009) to run similar programs in our Buea and Bamenda Networks and
hopefully to share the knowledge with others who hold leadership positions in
communities and civil society organizations that run projects.
