EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF PROJECTS
Project Title: “Small-scale Red Palm Oil and Soap
Processing in Ekaw-Menka, Widikum Sub-Division, Momo Division, North West Region, Republic of Cameroon, Central Africa"
Considering that Menka population (over 21,000)
exploits natural groves of oil palms most of which is birds-planted in a
disarrayed manner for production of oil palm traditionally using under feet (to
smash oil palm fruits) and hands (to press the mash), the introduction of
improved breeds nurseries and small-scale farms will significantly improve
yields. In addition, use of pressing and filtration machines to process oil
will improve quantity and quality while easing the tedious and inefficient
traditional processing method. Furthermore, in view of the poor sales of the
palm oil, transformation into soap will greatly maximize profits and create
jobs for many.
Oil palm is economically important as a high-yielding source of edible and technical oil. Red oil palm is very nutritious oil, rich in
Pro-Vitamin A and Vitamin E with no known toxins. It is the widest and most
popular cooking medium in
